We welcome a new Apprentice to join the GBS Team........

We are delighted to welcome Lauren to the GBS Team, Lauren is doing her Apprenticeship with us for Fabrication & Welding and studying at West Notts College in Mansfield on a Level 3 Fabricator course where she will be attending 1 day a week from September. Lauren is based in our fabrication department with the team and is currently working on some existing and new products that the team have been developing.

Laurens says “My favourite type of welding is TIG welding I like to give myself a challenge and TIG welding gives me opportunities to learn new skills. I have a good eye for detail and make sure all my work is up to a high quality and it is the best work I can produce”.

We have a fantastic team here at GBS who like Lauren all have a strong passion for all types of Motorsport. Lauren has a strong back ground in mechanics and interest in motorsport and a keen interest in motorbikes, which she has recently passed her motorbike test.

We are proud that around 80% of the Zero is made in house and many of you that have already visited us at the GBS Factory will know that we design and manufacture a lot of our products in house including the ATR Suspension, Throttle Bodies and more. University of Nottingham Student placement comes to an end....

We are pleased to have had Hugo Stephens with us here at GBS for several months on his university placement which came to an end last week. Hugo was studying MEng Mechanical Engineering at The University of Nottingham and was also the Mechanical Lead for the Solar Electric Car being built by the University's Racing Team. With his strong background in CAD/CAM, Hugo has been busy working with the GBS team to create the first Build Manual for the GBS Zero. The manual is now well underway and not too far of completion, which we aim to complete and release later this year. By being able to offer a complete manual, we are hoping it will make the decision to tackle your own Component Build less daunting, as this is something we have heard from some of our customers could be improved.

Hugo is now taking a short break before starting a new graduate job in Motorsport in a few weeks. We would like to thank Hugo for all his hard work whilst he has been with us, and we wish him well in his new graduate job which is in Motorsport and look forward to keeping in touch with him.  We are continuing to work with the University of Nottingham and looking at offering other University of Nottingham students a Postgraduate placement with us later this year. Read more about Hugo and his placement in an earlier news post here - Click here.

Investing in machinery with new Miller Welders and more.....

Investing In new machinery for fabrication……
We design and manufacture as much as we can and with full in-house design, development, manufacturing and testing we manage projects through the full product life cycle from concept to final production. Our capabilities range from less complicated prototype fabrication to complex composite structures.

We are always looking to improve techniques and move forward with the latest technology and are pleased to have recently invested in some new machinery to improve our fabrication and time saving with two brand new Miller Welders that were delivered to us just before Christmas.

The New Miller Dynasty 280 Tig Welder. The Dynasty 280 Series is a powerful combination of capability and portability, which is ideal for our fabrication site. Weighing only 52 pounds, it can weld up to 3/8" thick material. TIG (tungsten inert gas) welding is used to make precise, critical welds when joining metals such as mild steel, aluminium, or stainless steel. Which we use for the fabrication of components that we manufacture like the Fuel Tanks, Plenums, Sumps etc which are available from our parts website Kit Spares.

TIG welding is a two handed process (one hand holds the torch while the other feeds filler metal) and commonly involves a foot pedal or fingertip remote to control the arc amperage while welding.

We also have a new Miller Mig Matic 260i welder which we use for the manufacturing of the Zero Chassis and components, these machines will improve productivity, precision and overall quality of our products. Miller have spent some time with us setting up the machines and guiding us through the set ups so we can make the most of them.

We also have some more new machinery that we are expecting any time, so keep a look out on our Instagram for a preview of what that might be and we will share more with you on that very soon.
