Fantastic day at our GBS Christmas Cars & Coffee event….

The last event of 2019 happened last Saturday (7th December) at the GBS Factory, we held our GBS Christmas Cars & Coffee event. The weather could not have been better for it, it was cold but stayed dry it was the morning for the sports cars to be out the garage, the car park was busy all day with people and sports cars. We love how we get lots of Zero owners join us as well a full range of other sports cars, there is always something interesting to see!

We were also delighted that Bernd and the team were able to join us for the weekend from Germany and we think you will all agree the food (Currywurst, German Sausages in bread rolls along with Gluhwein) they were cooking and serving for us all was excellent and enjoyed by everyone along with all the tea, coffee, Christmas Cake and Mince Pies that also went down very well, we had non left! We hope to have raised lots of money for our chosen charities too.

We offer many workshop services and one of them being the IVA Service which is a very popular service and we often have several Zero’s and other sports cars that are in the workshop for this service. Recently we had this electric Model T vehicle that is a replicas of the famous 1910 Model T Ford in the workshop, it has been with us for several months as there was a lot of work involved including a lot of fabrication, electrical and more to prepare it to the IVA standard. We were pleased that it has now passed and is fully registered and was collected last week by the owner. Before it went we went on a short road test and took a few photos to share with you all. Its being used for tours in the city of Cambridge.
We now have a full workshop again with several Zero’s being prepared and panelled for paint, as well as several nice spec Zero factory builds in progress. We are also pleased to welcome a new member of the team to GBS who will be based in the workshop, David has a strong background in Motorsport, engineering and like all the GBS team a strong passion for all Motorsport.
For more details on our IVA Service and to book your car in for any of our other workshop services please click here or call us now.

GBS Featured in Magazine & Interesting sports cars in the GBS Car Park....

A few months ago we welcomed Editor Steve Hole from TKC Magazine to GBS where he looked around the factory and enjoyed a drive in our new Zero Gen 2 demonstrator. It had been a few years since Steve last visited so a lot has changed and developed. Steve took our new Zero Gen 2 demonstrator out for a test drive, we are very lucky as we have some great roads close to the factory so Steve was able to put the car through it paces to see what he thought….  When Steve arrived back from his test drive in the new Zero he got out the car and shook Richards hand and said “This car is brilliant, that’s all I can say really”. It’s nice to see that the full feature on GBS and our new Zero Gen 2 can now be seen in this month’s TKC Magazine November / December Issue which is out now in the shops.

Our new Zero demonstrator can be seen this weekend (8th-10th November) on our stand at the Classic Motor Show at the NEC along with two other nice Zero’s one of which will be for sale. Follow us on Instagram to see photos during the show and behind the scenes.

Our last GBS Cars & Coffee event was also featured in Complete Kit Car Magazine last month too. Will you be joining us on Saturday 7th December at GBS for our Christmas Cars and Coffee event? Click here for more details

The GBS Workshop often has some very interesting and sometimes unusual cars in, as does the GBS Car park and last week I spotted this little green sports car in the car park.... It was an original Frazer Nash Targa Florio Mk2, which captured the interest of all the GBS Team. We have also recently prepared and presented a very different vehicle to IVA, which some of you may have seen when you visited the GBS Workshop. We will share more on that with you all next week. Click below for more details about the workshop services that we offer.

Busy Workshop & another GBS Zero on the way to a Customer in USA…

A very nice spec Zero self build kit is now on the way to another customer in the USA after recently being collected from the factory. Another Zero Race kit is now being packed and prepared that will also be going to the USA before Christmas along with all our UK and other European self build Kit collections that are scheduled in for the next couple of weeks, we are very busy and the Zero kit dispatch area is looking very busy with many Zero chassis’s stacking up.

Rolls-Royce Motor Club visit GBS for a Factory Tour….

We get a lot of enquires for Factory Tours for owners clubs and sports car clubs all over the country, earlier this year we were approached by Henry a GBS Customer who has a Zero Race to ask if we would do a factory tour for  a club he is a club secretary for which is the Rolls Royce Motor Club.

We offer a few Factory Tour dates throughout the year including weekends and evenings and on Saturday we were pleased to welcome 25 members from the Rolls-Royce Motor Club to the GBS factory for a  tour of our facilities with Richard and the GBS team. During their tour they saw a lot of behind the scenes of how our bespoke sports cars and products are produced. Thomas was in our Machine Shop demonstrating what he does on the CNC machines and how parts are designed and manufactured. Two members of the club have built a Zero sports car and it was great to see that one of them arrived in his Zero, despite the heavy rain on the day!

Feed back from the tour was very positive and enjoyed by all, one member emailed to say
GBS is an amazing company. Their engineering exceeded by far my expectations. They can potentially redefine the kit-car and definitely set new standards for the "sevens". Their parts are retrofitted in other "sevens".
It is one of the those stories "if what is available on the market is not good enough, DIY" And all these with very competitive prices. – Anestis G, Rolls-Royce employees Motor Club

The morning generally starts with tea/coffee and biscuits in the GBS Show room then onto the GBS Workshop, Design & Development Room, Machine & Engineering, Clean Room, Kit Spares Store and then back into the showroom for more refreshments, questions and often a test drive in one of our Zero demonstrators.
Our GBS Factory Tours are free but we ask for a kind donation to be made to our chosen charities which are Cancer Research UK and Notts & Lincs Air Ambulance.

We hope that the Rolls Royce Motor Club all enjoyed their visit to GBS and we would like to say thank you for your kind donations that you made on the day. Click here to see a short video that we created of when the Rolls Royce Motor Club members visited us.

For more details on our factory tours that we offer and to look to book one please click here or contact us.

GBS Zero's on display and out on the track in America...

Last weekend (11th – 13th October) the Zero’s were at Laguna Seca raceway home of the famous “Corkscrew” complex of corners for the Miatas Reunion at Laguna Seca 2019.

We had several Mazda based customer GBS Zero’s on display and were located on the pit road at the legendary race venue and around town during the weekend. Richard and Anthony were there along with Paul Barnes who is our USA representative.

Miatas at Laguna Seca is an annual event for all things Miata with hundreds of cars attending each year.  The event combines hard-core track time with more laid back, friendly gatherings. Given our GBS Zero takes the proven Miata performance to a whole new level we felt it a fitting venue to showcase the Zero to Miata enthusiasts from around north America.

Now in its 10th year at Laguna Seca, the Miata Reunion is an annual celebration of the MX-5 Miata, offering quality track time at an iconic venue for hard-core track enthusiasts, as well as a full plate of off-track activities and social interaction for Miata lovers. It’s the last year the event will be held at Laguna Seca, next years event location is yet to be published.

The GBS Zero is very popular in the USA with several Zero’s now on the road and many that are currently being built as well as several more kits that we are currently preparing to export later this year. On the way to the Laguna Seca, Richard, Anthony and Paul called in to see Frank a GBS Customer in LA who has very nearly completed his build. His 1.8 Miata based Zero is now road registered and he is just making the finishing touches to it before wrapping the car in his chosen colour scheme, he is yet to let on what this is.

Once the Miata’s Reunion had come to an end we took the Zero down a 130 mile section of the famous Pacific Highway 1 from Monterey to San Luis Obispo. This is the first time a Zero has been down this iconic cliff hugging coastal road  often referred to as the PCH.

It was great to meet so many USA Customers and hear how their builds are going and to meet many new customers some of who are taking delivery of their Zero kits later this year, we would like to thank Paul for all is help in arranging the event and making it happen for us and also GBS Customers Dan and Marlin for joining us and having their Zero’s on display over the weekend.

Here are some photographs from the trip and more can be seen on our GBS Instagram page @gbs_cars.

For more details about the Zero USA Self Build Options please click here and to see what other events we are going too, please visit our Event Page.

Nice to have customers Zero back in the GBS Workshop from Norway…..

Peer returned with his nearly completed 2.5 Duratec powered Zero build last week for us to do some of the final fittings and engine set up.

Peers was with us for just over 4 days and all the GBS team worked together to complete the build and set up including some late nights.  The high spec Zero looked stunning once all completed and Peers enjoyed a road test with Richard once the engine was all set up.

This stunning Zero is a 230 Calibre Spec that features - LHD Standard Sport Chassis, 2.5ltr Ford Duratec engine, with ATR Throttle Bodies, Life ECU, Painted with Stripes, Carbon Fibre Bodywork Pack, Rear Diffuser, Momo Steering Wheel and Quick Release Boss, Heated windscreen, ATR Suspension and ATR Brakes.

Fantastic 3 days at Goodwood Revival with the Zero….

We had another great year at this years Goodwood Revival with the Zero….. Last weekend (13th-15th September) we were at The Goodwood Revival show with the GBS Zero, it was a fantastic event and a truly amazing show to be at, its one of our favourite events of the year and we always look forward to it! We were situated Over The Road on stand 381, on a slightly different stand location to previous years as the location of all the stands got moved around this year.

We had our new Zero demonstrator on display which attracted a lot of attention over the 3 days along with a sample range of components and engines. We will share more details and the specification of our new Zero Gen 2 Demonstrator with you later this week.

Our stand was busy all weekend and the weather was perfect, we all enjoyed the show and it was fantastic to see all of the racing out on the circuit and up close in the paddock as well as Air Displays, Shopping and much more, as well as catch up with suppliers, customers and friends… We would like to thank everyone that visited our stand.

We are now back at the factory, busy getting ready for our next event that is happening this Saturday (21st September) which is our GBS Cars & Coffee event. Gates open at 10am, let us know you are coming and share with your friends and family, all are welcome in any car!

GBS exhibit at LCV at Millbrook with the Electric Zero.....

GBS were exhibiting at LCV at Millbrook (Low carbon vehicle event) last week with a GBS Zero demonstrating a novel concept battery and EV platform and disseminating the successful completion of a composite and titanium project.

The GBS concept EV platform: The chassis is bespoke to allow for the concept EV powertrain. In the front of the vehicle the battery has replaced the standard engine as the energy source and the original fuel cell is replaced with the powertrain. GBS have machined intricate prototype parts to allow the E drive system to be mounted as a compact unit within in the vehicle.
The powered electronics have been developed in partnership with Rockfort Engineering who are heavily involved with Formula E. The project was to develop a novel cooling concept and the project vehicle will be used to create duty cycles to further develop this technology. The vehicle has a limited range as it was designed for high load discharge to generate heat and monitor the cooling data.

Prototype Carbon fibre barrels by GBS and Titanium centres designed and manufactured by AJE.
The vehicle has carbon fibre wheels with titanium wheel centres to reduce the un-sprung weight of the rotating mass. GBS have manufactured the inner and outer barrels of the wheels as part of a collaboration. The project was to extract learning form the Ti process by completing this project GBS has greater understanding of an internal composite process that GBS are developing for the future.

We are now busy preparing for this weekends event which is the Goodwood Revival (13th-15th September), where we will be having our new Zero demonstrator on display. We can be found over the road on stand 381. Visit our event page where you will see more details.
